4/11-4/15

Science - We are reviewing for the TAKS on April 28th. Your child will be bringing home science practice. Have him/her complete it individually then go over it together.
Reading - Speeches will be presented on April 15th!! Continue to work on them at home. Your child has the requirements with their research. More research may need to be done at home as well. This speech should have a catchy intro, body with 3 main points and details, and a good conclusion. *See your child's notes for more specific requirements.*
Math - We are using stations to review past concepts (graphing, median, mode, range). We took a Statistics test on Monday, please review the results and missed questions with your child.

Stay tuned for more updates....

TAKS prep

Report Cards are coming home this week.
TAKS - Math on  Monday and Reading on Tuesday

Completed TAKS prep materials are in your child’s Thursday folder. We have been practicing in class using our strategies to tackle the TAKS test! Please review these materials (especially missed items) with your child to help him/her be more prepared.

We all know TAKS is important and you can help your child by not stressing out about the test. Your child needs you as a cheerleader these next few weeks. Stay positive and encouraging. Begin getting your child on a routine of getting in bed early and eating a good breakfast. Every little thing can make a difference. It’s up to you!

Thanks for all of your support.

SPRING BREAK!

With TAKS so close (2 weeks of school) I am sending home a math and reading packet for the students to work on during Spring Break. They also need to READ, READ, READ!!

Do not make them do school work all day, everyday. It is their Spring Break and they earned it! :)

See you back on MARCH 21st!!

Already March...

We have a busy few weeks ahead of us. A few important reminders:

Spring Break - March 14-18
TAKS Math - April 4
TAKS Reading - April 5
End of 9 Weeks, Early Release - April 25
Report Cards Home - April 30

Make sure you are checking your child's Thursday folder weekly and looking at all the of graded papers. It is a very busy and challenging time for the students so please be on top of their progress.

TAKS PRACTICE: With TAKS coming please make sure your child is reading AT LEAST 30 minutes a day. Also, please review the weekly COUNTDOWN TO TAKS (math) booklets that come home. These are practice for the real thing! We are now taking practice TAKS reading tests. Talk with your child about the strategies he/she should be using and go over any reading tests that come home.

Research Project

Attention Parents:
We are beginning a research unit this week. The students will be researching an invention and the inventor  that has had a positive impact on society.
They will be presenting the week of Feb. 21-25 (exact days TBA).
The students are to come up with 3 good research questions and get 3 sources for each question. They may present creating a PowerPoint or a poster.
We will conduct most of the research in class but the projects will be assembled at home. If the students needs supplies like poster board, please let me know ASAP.

Be creative with presentations! The students can dress up like the inventor and bring in props to help them present. Have fun and happy researching. :)

Solar System Project

Attention parents and guardians:
We have a project assigned that is due on Wednesday, Jan. 12th!!

Each student must create a model of the Solar System.
They must include the following:
  • Sun
  • 9 planets
  • label the inner and outer planets
  • asteroid belt
  • one fact about each planet
The project will be graded on accuracy, creativity/effort, neatness, and must contain all of the above items. HAVE FUN AND BE CREATIVE!! (You may use Solar System links to help complete the project). I want MOST of the work to be done by the student but I do also encourage family involvement. :)
